Forgotten in Woodstock

I found this glass on a recent trip to Woodstock in a small antique store.  It was a few days into our trip and I was worried I wasn’t going to come back with any glassware but this blue beauty was sitting alone in the window, catching the sunlight so perfectly.  I quickly scooped her up.  When I went to pay, the shop owner told me the glass was originally part of a larger set and somehow got left behind when the rest were purchased.  It was a tragedy, being separated from her group.  But it felt like, in some way, she was meant to be mine.  On our walk back to our Airbnb, we stopped in the liquor store and they were doing some sample tastings which included Pollinator Spirits Crimson Amaro. I was mesmerized by the color and flavor and thought this had to be the main spirit for my lonely glass.  The amaro is dry and usually I like to sip it on its own.  So this one took me a few tries to tame the amaro to be perfectly highlighted without fully over powering.  Grapefruit juice and rhubarb bitters helped mesh all the flavors perfectly together.  I also ended up using Philadelphia Distilling’s Bluecoat Gin that paired well and I felt it was a nice way to introduce the glass to its new home.  Since the glass was a bit tall I ended up topping it with Saratoga sparkling water, also close to Woodstock and a similar color to the glass.  I think this drink makes this beautiful glass feel right at home. So shake one of these up and think of all those who may have found a new home after being left behind.
