War Of Whiskey

This was the first cocktail I created specifically for a glass.  I found this White Hall Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge glass at the thrift store and had to have it.  I fantasized about what kinds of drinks were originally served in it- which were mainly standard cocktails with cheap booze and lots of ice.  When I talked to my husband about the drinks I assumed were in served in it, he told me it was definitely a warm drink.  As any normal couple would do in a disagreement, I decided to take an Instagram poll to see what most people thought would be served in this glass.  It turns out he was right and most people voted for hot drinks.  But one friend, Carolyn Busa, messaged me saying she'd like me to create my own drink in it called War of Whiskey.  I mulled over the ideas of what a war of whiskey would be.  I wanted two competing yet complimentary flavors, so I ended up with a very smokey scotch and a sweet tasting bourbon.  I then decided to go close to a Manhattan/Rob Roy with some sweet vermouth and bitters, but also added some chocolate bitters to war a bit with the originals.  Then I added a drizzle of red wine for drama.  The result was a delightful very boozy drink that inspired the whole gimmick of glassware specific mixology.
